What is Aadhaar?

Aadhaar in its true essence means Base or foundation. It is a 12-digit unique identification code given to all Indians based on their demographics and biometrics.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), founded in January 2009 by the Government of India (GOI), is the body responsible for collecting this data from every citizen of India Irrespective of their age, gender, caste, religion. What is e-Aadhaar?

E-Aadhaar is the electronic version of an individual’s Aadhaar Card. It is exactly the same as the person’s Aadhaar card and can be used for all identification purposes, where an Aadhaar card is required.

The e-Aadhaar can be downloaded on the UIDAI website. You can also check the status of your Aadhaar card on the website. 

What is m-Aadhaar app?

The m-Aadhaar app is an initiative taken by the government so that citizens can carry their Aadhaar card around at all times without having to physically carry the card.

The app also acts like the UIDAI website for official Aadhaar applications and for any and all updates of the card. Each app can carry up to 3 Aadhaar cards making it easier for a person to carry all his family’s demographics and Aadhaar details with them. 

Furthermore, the app is well-protected, requiring a security password every time to launch it, ensuring the safety of the Aadhaar and making sure it doesn’t fall into wrong hands.

The app is available only in android version as of now, but the government is working to release an iOS version soon. The app however can only be downloaded and used if one has linked their Aadhaar number with their mobile number.
