RRB NTPC stands for Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories. This exam is held every year by the Railway Recruitment Board and helps the candidates to get Government jobs in the Indian Railways. 

RRB is a public sector enterprise that oversees the recruitment process for various posts in the nation’s railway sector. The RRB NTPC examination is conducted at a national level and conducted in an online mode (computer-based test).

The RRB NTPC recruitment process happens every year to fill the vacancies available. The conducting authority releases an official notification with the details about the number of vacancies for each post and the eligibility. As the Railways have 21 regional boards, the number of vacancies is often around 35,000.

Eligibility for RRB NTPC

There are three categories on which the eligibility for application of RRB NTPC is determined:

1. Nationality

  • A citizen of India or
  • A subject of Nepal or
  • A subject of Bhutan or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 for permanent settlement or
  • Indian citizen who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to settle in India permanently.

2. Education

The education qualification required to apply for different posts in the RRB NTPC is as follows:

  • Traffic Assistant –  Graduation Degree
  • Senior Time Keeper  –  Graduation Degree and Typing proficiency in Hindi/English on computer
  • Commercial Apprentice (CA)  –  Graduation Degree
  • Traffic Apprentice (TA)  –  Graduation Degree
  • Enquiry-Cum-Reservation-Clerk  –  Graduation Degree
  • Goods Guard Selection  –  Graduation Degree
  • Assistant Station Master (ASM)  –  Graduation Degree
  • Senior Clerk-Cum-typist  –  Graduation Degree and Typing proficiency in Hindi/English on computer
  • Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist  –  Graduation Degree and Typing proficiency in Hindi/English on computer

3. Age

  • The age limit for applying for level-1 in open category is 18 – 31 years
  • That for ALP and Technician is 18 – 28 years
  • Other than that, reserved category students have some relation in the age limit which is as follows:
    • SC / ST Candidates  –  5 years
    • OBC – Non-Creamy Layer candidates  –  3 years
    • Ex-Servicemen candidates who have put in more than 6 months of service after attestation  –  Up to the extent of service rendered in Defence plus 3 years
    • Persons with Disabilities (PwD)  –  10 years
    • PWD OBC- Non-Creamy Layer  –  13 years
    • PwD SC/ST  –  15 years

How to Apply For the RRB NTPC?

  1. Visit the website of RRB NTPC 2022 at www.indianrailways.gov.in, and under the ‘Recruitments‘ Tab, pick a region.
  2. Different regions have a different layout, and from there, candidates can click on the application download link. The first link is for ALP and Technician post. The second link is to other posts.
  3. For the other posts, once candidates click on the online application link and a new window opens where the candidates can click on New Registration.
  4. A new window will open, fill in all the essential details, and click on the “Submit” button.
  5. After successful registration, candidates will receive login credentials on the given Email ID.
  6. Log in with the credentials to fill the RRB NTPC 2022 Application Form. Fill in all the details and click on the “Submit” button.
  7. Candidates will be redirected to the payment page. Candidates have to pay INR 100 using Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking. After successful payment, candidates can take a printout of the RRB NTPC Application Form.

How to Download RRB NTPC Admit Card?

  1. Candidates will be provided with the link to the RRB NTPC 2022 official website, where he/she needs to provide the details about the application form to download the admit card
  2. Candidates need to provide their registration number, date of birth, and the password
  3. After entering all the details in the required boxes, candidates will be taken to the download page, where the RRB NTPC 2022 admit card download link will be given
  4. After clicking on the download link, the RRB NTPC 2022 Admit Card will be downloaded
  5. The RRB NTPC 2022 admit card will be in pdf format. Candidates are advised to take the printout of the admit card and save the soft copy of the admit card on their computer. For further reference, Candidates must carry admit cards at the time of appearing in the exam; otherwise, they will be restricted from appearing in the exam.

RRB NTPC Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Examination: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
  • Total Marks: the First stage will be for 100 marks, and the second stage will be for 120 marks.
  • Marking Scheme: Every correct answer will be awarded one mark, and 1/3rd mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • Duration: Total duration for each stage of the RRB NTPC 2022 Exam will be 90 minutes or 1 hour and 30 minutes.

First Stage

The first stage of RRB NTPC has three papers. General Awareness for 40 marks, Mathematics for 30 marks and General Intelligence & Reasoning for 30 marks. A total of 1 Hr 30 Mins is given for candidates to solve the entire paper.

Second Stage

The second stage of RRB NTPC has similar papers to that of Stage 1, but General awareness will be for 50 marks, Mathematics for 35 marks and General Intelligence & Reasoning will be for 35 marks. Again, an hour and a half is provided for the candidates to solve the paper.

How to Download the RRB NTPC Result?

  1. Visit the official website of RRB NTPC 2022.
  2. The candidates should search for the “Result” tab on the top of the page and click on it.
  3. The candidates have to search for the exam whose results they want to see and click on the ‘click here link under the NTPC tab.
  4. A pdf file will open showing the results in a Merit list. The list will show the candidates that have passed the 1st stage exam. The candidates can see if their roll number is on the list or not. If the roll number of a particular candidate is not on the list, he/ she has not qualified for the exam.
  5. The candidate can download the result and take a printout of the same and keep it safe for further usage.

Other Guidelines

  • Candidates who will not carry the admit card with them will not appear in the RRB NTPC 2022 examination.

  • Just issuing a Call Letter/e-admit card to the candidate does not mean that the RRB has finally accepted his candidature

Q. What is the application fee for RRB NTPC Exam?

Answer: The application fee for the general Category and the OBC Category is Rs.500, while that for women, SC, ST, PwD and Ex-Servicemen in Rs.250.

Q. Is it compulsory to produce a medical certificate in the Aptitude Test?

Answer: Yes, it is compulsory to provide a medical certificate at the time of the Aptitude Test.
