Durga Puja- Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasur

Coexists with Navratri and Dussehra

A ten day festival, of which last five days hold the major importance

Day 1- Shasthi (October 1, 2022) Marks the descend of Maa Durga with her four children

Day 2- Saptami (October 2, 2022) Kola Bou, the tradition of dressing a banana tree in saree and bathing in river, is performed

Day 3- Ashtami (October 3, 2022) Maa Durga is worshipped as a young girl in Kumari Puja on this day

Day 4- Navami (October 4, 2022) The last day of the festival is celebrated by holding a Maha Aarti

Day 5- Dashami (October 5, 2022) Idols of Maa Durga are immersed into the river

Mahishasuramarddini - a highly popular dawn radio programme on AIR  has been playing in Bengal during Durga Puja since 1931
